The Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) is a world technical organization of petroleum engineers. Based in the United States of America, is also known as SPE Dallas. The organization actively promotes good reputation of the worldwide petroleum industry.
SPE-UTM Student Chapter is one of the student chapter in Asia Pacific region, with more than 360 student chapters around the world. SPE-UTM SC has been recognized as The Outstanding Student Chapter (OSC), awarded by SPE for three consecutive years in 2013, 2014 and 2015.
In retrospect, SPE-UTM has undergone various change and continuous progress in organization administration. Petroleum Engineering was introduced as degree course Institut Teknologi Kebangsaan in 1974 to meet the need of national oil industry. This naturally led to the formation of a Petro Club, with every petroleum engineering student automatically become a member of this club.
In 1982, club members made a unanimous decision to affiliate The Petro Club of SPE international as one of its branches. The moves was successful and the club since be recognized as SPE-UTM Student Chapter maintain a good relation with companies in petroleum industries, as well as renown universities in South East Asia such as Universitas Trisakti, Jakarta and University of Chulalangkorn.
SPE-UTM Student Chapter gathers and disseminated information about the following activities exploration, drilling and production of energy from crude oil and natural gas. Seminars, conferences and intensive publicity are organized to that purpose. It also provide opportunities to those who are interested in acquiring improving themselves or mystery in petroleum engineering by providing various information regarding names in the petroleum industry.
SPE is a place for all of today’s industry professionals, regardless of experience or course of study. Now, SPE-UTM SC is open to all UTM students.
