APSC 2012
On 18th December 2012 till 21st December 2012, Society of Petroleum Engineers Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (SPE-UTM SC) had sent 4 representatives to participate in Asia Pacific SPE Student Chapter Conference 2012 (APSC ’12) which was held in China University of Petroleum, Beijing, China.
SPE-UTM SC representatives are Mr. Abang Mohd Faiz, Mr. Li Lei, Mr. Lim Kak Yi & Mr . Yap Szeyong.
The 1st edition of this Asia Pacific SPE Student Chapter Conference was organised by SPE-UTM SC in 2011 which was called as South-East Asia SPE Student Chapter Conference 2011 (SASC ’11) in Universiti Teknologi Malaysia and for 2012, SPE-CUPB SC managed to continue this beneficial gathering and networking event which was participated by 6 SPE Student Chapters namely SPE-CUPB SC, SPE-UTM SC, SPE-UTP SC, SPE-CUGB SC, SPE Peking University SC & SPE Research Centre Beijing SC.
APSC ’12 was officiated by Mr. Ronald L. Morris, SPE Director, Northern Asia Pacific Region.
This event aimed to strengthen the bonds between SPE Student Chapters around Asia Pacific and it managed to be the platform for the participants to exchange ideas to improve every aspect for respective SPE Student Chapters. Besides that, APSC ’12 gave the opportunity to all participants to widen the corporate networking with each other, industrial practitioners as well as VIPs who came from Oil & Gas Industry.
APSC ’12 comprised of CUPB Campus Visit, Paper Presentation, Culture Night, SPE Student Chapter conference, Trips around Beijing and many more social activities. One of our representatives, Mr. Yap Szeyong successfully presented his paper entitled “The performance of xanthan gum and glass beads in foam drilling fluid”.
SPE-UTM SC representatives were honoured to receive the support and sponsorship to cover the flight tickets from SPE-KL Section while accommodation and food were provided by the organiser, SPE-CUPB SC.
All in all, APSC ’12 managed to achieve the goals of the conference and SPE-UTM SC will continue to support and participate in this event in 2013.
