FRESH<\/strong> is a short form of Food Recycling Ensuring Sustainable and Healthy soil. The main reason of the establishment of the program is to support environmental sustainability.<\/p>\n

FRESH<\/strong> is conducting workshops with regards to biomass management, composting process, compost quality assessment and achieve sustainable farm management through compost application. The topics that are covered in the workshops are :<\/p>\n

  1. An introduction to composting<\/li>\n
  2. Creating the eco-system to enable the application of compost<\/li>\n
  3. Good Agricultural Practices<\/li>\n
  4. Urban Farming<\/li>\n
  5. Compost application and fertigation strategies<\/li>\n
  6. Effect of compost in plant growth promoting and diseases control<\/li>\n
  7. Microbial technology in composting and farming<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    The targeted groups :<\/p>\n

    • RTC officers (representatives from mini RTC)<\/li>\n
    • Farmers (representatives from each mini RTC)<\/li>\n
    • Officers from Department of Agriculture and other relevant government agencies\/departments<\/li>\n
    • School (teachers and staff who are interested to develop \u2018waste to compost\u2019)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

      • Engagement with stakeholders interested in doing composting<\/li>\n
      • Engagement with stakeholders to coordinate biomass supply for composting<\/li>\n

        Ucompost<\/strong> is a product of UTM living lab : the Bio-Recycling Centre (BRC)<\/p>\n

        We collect food waste and yard waste around UTM campus which composting is carried out at Dusun UTM. The final product is Ucompost which can be used as fertilizer or soil conditioner.<\/p>\n

        What is composting?<\/strong>
        Composting is a natural process in which organic waste is being decomposed by microorganisms into a nutrient-rich product, known as compost. Finished compost is of soil-dark brown color and has a pleasant earthy smell.<\/p>\n

        \u00a0We also providing knowledge of how the composting happens, a step-by-step guide for home composting and preparing Effective Micro-organisms for Food Waste Composting. On the other hand, this product can enhance the awareness of public on the roles and importance of science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) in socio-economic well being and sustainable development.<\/p>\n
